Posdoctoral Fellow
Santiago, Chile
I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC-CHILE) and a part time lecturer at the Universidad Adolfo Ibañez in Chile. My research and teaching interests focus on the areas of sustainable energy sources including energy efficiency programs, renewable energy technologies and climate change issues. As a young researcher, I have found that Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Access (OA) offer an exciting opportunity to transform the vibrant learning environment and give educational institutions a competitive advantage in engineering low-carbon future. Around the world, different developed countries have responded to the call for OER in varying ways. Unfortunately, as of today, the South American countries where, notwithstanding important gains in OER availability, OA prevalence, both in terms of output and usage, remains very low. I believe that attending OpenCon 2014 will help me in creating new contacts/network from all over the world and in finding collaborative ways to pull appropriate OER from a number of low-carbon energy sources in my current faculty. I am committed to empowering general public with OER that will allow them to learn about important benefits of these sources and to make smart, educated choices on driving a more efficient energy and sustainable future. In addition, I am sure the use of OER will have a positive impact on the quality of the education through conducting innovative teaching methods and resources, promoting the visibility of the university and offering an opportunity to gain additional recognition of the university.
I am looking forward to OpenCon2014 as unique opportunity to launch fruitful collaborations in the future.
